Treatment Options

The best way to treat children’s allergies is to find out about them early and then avoid the things your child is allergic to. This treatment is usually referred to simply as avoidance. Your doctor may also recommend medication to relieve symptoms. A variety of other treatment options are available, including allergy shots. Allergy shots are given over a period of months or years to slowly help the body stop reacting to allergens.

Before you and your doctor decide on a treatment path, it’s important to find out for sure if allergy is contributing to your child’s symptoms. Without testing, you may be exposing your child to unnecessary medications or avoidable treatment procedures. Even if an allergy test is negative, that information is valuable evidence your doctor can use to find out the true cause of your child’s sniffles, sneezing or other symptoms.
